Real Haunted Places

Real Haunted Houses / Haunted Hotels in America / Room Haunted

Victoria BC Canada has a reputation of being one of North America's real haunted places. In fact one local expert conducts nightly ghost tour walks in Downtown Victoria.

  •  One of British Columbia's most famous ghosts is Doris Gravlin, a nurse who was murdered by her husband on the Victoria Golf Course on September 22, 1936. The ghost of Doris Gravlin is frequently seen along the 7th fairway and the adjacent beach (where her body was found) and in numerous other places nearby.

Ghostly Walks are walking tours conducted every night from mid-June to mid-September and on weekends through the rest of the year, with additional tours in October. Ghost tours for booked groups may be arranged at any time.

The tours have been developed by John Adams, one of Victoria's foremost historians and storytellers, who has been leading ghost tours through the alleys and haunted places of Victoria since 1970. He has appeared on the TV series Ghosts and Ghoulies and on OLN's Creepy Canada. The tours are conducted by John and his team of expert guides.

Ghostly Walks are guaranteed to be spell-binding, entertaining, memorable, and most of all ... spine-tingling!

  •  Ghostly Walk Tours go all year, contact the Gingerbread Cottage B&B for current details

Through the summer months, Ghostly Walks follow five totally different routes. During the winter, the tours follow route 1 (Bastion Square and Old Town). All start from the Visitor Info Centre and last 90 minutes.

The Gingerbread Cottage Bed and Breakfast has a History of many friendly hauntings.

  •  It was once owned by a reclusive sea captain who still guards his stash of cash hidden somewhere in the house. When Gingerbread Cottage Bed and Breakfast bought the old Victorian duplex, Vanessa found many holes in the hardwood floors where people thought the money had been hidden.

    •  On a lighter "haunting" note, Dean was digging a hole in the yard one day and heard a loud hollow "clinck" on the end of his shovel. Although he was not really convinced about the Sea Captain's Loot story  that day - at that moment - he seemed to buy into it. He was secretly praying for the story to be true as he jabbed away at the hollow sounding object with a heavy crowbar. The object broke under the stress and revealed a hollow area. Dean crawled into the excavation to look for his treasure when someone in the house flushed the toilet....

"Buried Treasure alright" Dean thought, as he handed the plumber a large check for an emergency service call!

The memory of that ghostly costly experience still haunts Dean today!

Stay with us at the Gingerbread Cottage Bed and Breakfast for a heartwarming 'good-spirit filled' holiday and take the Ghostly Tour of the many other haunted places in Victoria.

Vanessa von Schellwitz

Coming to Canada from Salzburg Austria, Gingerbread has been a big part of my life since early childhood.

Gingerbread has a long history, since medieval times it has been used because of its ability to stay fresh and wholesome for long periods of time, thus making it possible to take on early voyages and pilgrimages.

Today, I own and operate the Gingerbread Cottage, Bed and Breakfast in Victoria British Columbia Canada and work with my favorite Austrian foods- Book your stay today!

We hope to hear from you!
