Adopt a Whale
Adopt a WhaleThe Pacific Northeast around Victoria British Columbia Canada, the Gulf Islands and the San Juan Islands has been the feeding ground for several pods of orcas. There are over 80 whales in the three families of local resident orcas. Orca whale groups live in families or pods. In the Victoria BC area there are three pods of resident Orcas. These orcas are usually feeding on fish and the name killer whale is really a bit of a misnomer for the local pods. The term Killer Whale is actually more appropriately used for the transient orcas who live in pairs or smaller pods and eat seals or sea lions or prey on other whale calves.
The Whale Museum in Friday Harbour has an adopt a whale program in place where you can adopt a whale for a fee. You can choose to adopt an orca whale from the 80 whales from J, K, L Pods.
The money from the adoption process will allow researchers to ensure the whales' long term well being. Whales are facing problems with declining fish populations, toxic exposures, underwater noise from boats and threats of oil spills.
Complete adoption forms and application details are available to our registered guests at the Gingerbread Cottage Bed & Breakfast in Victoria or click adopt a whale at SeaKing Adventures Office and Giftshop at Fisherman's Wharf. Captain Ron is a tremendous whale watching guide with a perfect safety record and a great regard for whale safety and treatment. Book your tour with SeaKing Adventures.

Vanessa von SchellwitzComing to Canada from Salzburg Austria, Gingerbread has been a big part of my life since early childhood. Gingerbread has a long history, since medieval times it has been used because of its ability to stay fresh and wholesome for long periods of time, thus making it possible to take on early voyages and pilgrimages. Today, I own and operate the Gingerbread Cottage, Bed and Breakfast in Victoria British Columbia Canada and work with my favorite Austrian foods- Book your stay today! We hope to hear from you!
